hereChucki Begay is a Dine’ singer/songwriter and her style of music is contemporary Native American. She comes from a place called Dzil’abei (Gray Mountain) on the Navajo Indian Reservation in northern Arizona. Chucki began her music career as a solo artist alongside a Native flute accompanist. She blends her contemporary Native American style of music with soothing rhythms of rock/blues/folk/jazz. Chucki’s traditional Dine’ teaching influenced her music and is inherent in her motivating words and soulful way of expressing her music, whether it be about love, heartbreak, or Hozhoji or Beautyway. Chucki released her debut cd “Songs From My Heart” in 2007 and has since become a well-established national and international music artist making a name for her self among the contemporary Native American music scene. In 2008, Chucki was nominated “Debut Artist of the Year” for the 2008 Native American Music Awards. Her music has also received honorable recognition by Native American organizations, television and radio shows, newsletters, and magazines.
